Winter in Georgetown has its own cozy charm—bundled walks to class, chilly winds, and warm study sessions with a comforting drink in hand. As a senior, I’ve gone through several Georgetown winters. I’ve found that finals season, though stressful, is a time to slow down and appreciate the little things that help get you through the week. A tasty drink, whether hot or cold, often becomes my trusty companion during long study sessions. Here are some go-to drinks that can keep you energized and focused all winter.
1. Hot Latte from Grace Street Coffee Roasters
Grace Street Coffee Roasters is a favorite spot by the Georgetown waterfront. Known for its specialty coffee, every cup promises a smooth experience. It’s often bustling, especially during finals, making an early morning visit worthwhile. Pair your hot latte or refreshing cold matcha with a breakfast burrito from Monstera, right next door.
On my last visit, I tried their banana foster latte, and the flavors were incredible—like warm spices mixed with espresso. Their matcha latte and unique drinks like the miso soy flat white also get rave reviews. No wonder it’s a popular choice for students!
2. Matcha Latte with Boba from Spot of Tea
If you’re in the mood for something fun, Spot of Tea is the place to go. This cozy boba shop near the waterfront offers a variety of drinks, but their matcha latte is my personal favorite. The fresh, chewy boba makes each sip even better. Plus, they have ample seating, so it’s an ideal spot to study or hang out with friends. You can also grab a bite from other vendors nearby, making it a perfect study pit stop.
3. Seasonal Latte from Maman
Maman is another quaint café worth a visit. I recently tried their honey butter latte, and it was both warming and sweet. The café has a charming, rustic feel, and it’s often busy, especially on weekends. If you’re patient, you can snag a cozy spot that’s great for studying or catching up with friends.
4. Hot Chocolate from the Corp
On a chilly afternoon, I opted for a hot chocolate from the Corp, a student-run organization with various coffee spots across campus. The hot chocolate was rich and comforting—a perfect way to break up a study session. I also love their Rainbow Fish tea and classic iced latte. It’s nice to sip on a drink made by fellow students while soaking up the campus vibe.
5. Strawberry Matcha from Blank Street Coffee
Located on M Street, Blank Street Coffee is known for its minimalist vibe and delicious drinks. Their seasonal specials, like Banana Bread Matcha or Earl Grey Matcha, are delightful. My go-to is their Strawberry Shortcake Matcha, which is always a refreshing treat. While seating is limited, you can usually find a cozy corner to enjoy your drink.
Inspiration can be hard to find while studying, especially during finals. But a simple cup of your favorite drink can create those small moments of joy that make all the difference. So, whether you prefer cozy lattes or refreshing matcha, Georgetown has plenty to offer. Remember to check out the unique drink menus at these local spots—they might just become your seasonal favorites!
