The festivities kick off on January 30, 2025, and include activities like groundhog trivia, a Groundhog Day 5K race, and a screening of the movie itself. There’s even a walking tour of key filming locations, providing fans a chance to relive some cinematic magic. One highlight is a meet-and-greet with Stephen Tobolowsky, who played the memorable Ned Ryerson in the film.
Located about 61 miles from Chicago and over 568 miles from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, where the annual Groundhog Day celebration originated, Woodstock has become a beloved stop for fans of the film. The local community comes together each year to celebrate this classic, where both residents and visitors can bond over their favorite scenes and quotes.
During the meet-and-greet on February 1, from noon to 1 p.m., fans can connect with Tobolowsky at 11 E. Van St. He will be signing copies of his books like “The Dangerous Animals Club” and “Cautionary Tales.” It’s a great chance to get up close with one of the movie’s stars.
Plus, the first-ever Groundhog Day 5K race is set for February 1, beginning bright and early between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. Runners will dash past iconic spots featured in the film, like the Pennsylvania Hotel and bowling alley. If you’re interested in participating, registration is available online for $40.
