The El Paso International Music Foundation is putting a spotlight on musician wellness with a special Musicians Health Fair this Saturday. The focus is on mental health, an area often overlooked in the music industry.
The event will include health and wellness vendors, on-site blood screenings, vaccinations, and live musical performances. A licensed psychologist will also host a discussion on mental health specific to artists.
Jez from the band The Pie Sisters, one of the event’s co-sponsors, shared insights about the fair. “It’s meant for artists, providing resources and information tailored to them,” she said. “But it’s open to everyone—friends, family, and anyone interested. We want to support artists in their craft and well-being.”
This fair will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at NEEP Collective, located at 8144 Dyer St. in Northeast El Paso. It’s a chance for artists to connect with their community while focusing on their mental and physical health.
Recent studies show that mental health challenges are common in the music industry, with artists facing unique pressures. A survey by Help Musicians UK found that around 71% of musicians suffer from anxiety or depression. Events like this one are crucial for providing support and fostering conversations about these issues.
As this fair approaches, it highlights a growing trend in the art community—prioritizing mental health. Similar initiatives are gaining popularity in cities worldwide, recognizing the importance of well-being among creative individuals.
It’s encouraging to see local organizations taking charge in this area, reminding us that the health of artists is vital not just for their success but for the vibrant cultural landscape they help create.
