Discover Healthier Eating: Explore San Juan College’s Harvest Food Hub for Nutritious Options!

As summer comes to a close, there’s only a short time left to enjoy local growers’ markets. If you miss them, don’t worry! The Harvest Food Hub in Farmington, New Mexico, has you covered.

Many people are looking to eat healthier, and that’s where the Harvest Food Hub steps in. Jacqueline Montoya, the kitchen manager, notes that it aims to fill a need in the community for fresh vegetables year-round. Farmers’ markets have limited hours, but the Harvest Food Hub is open Wednesday to Friday from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., allowing easier access to local produce.

One of their unique offerings is the harvest food bus, which provides a convenient way to grab locally grown food. For just $25, you can take home a box filled with seven to nine items, including seasonal choices like winter squash and various pumpkins.

To help you make the most of your fresh produce, each box comes with a recipe flyer, detailing what’s inside and where it came from. This gives you ideas on how to prepare these healthy ingredients.

Interestingly, a recent study from the American Journal of Public Health showed that access to fresh food increases healthy eating habits by 30%. This highlights why initiatives like the Harvest Food Hub are so essential for communities seeking healthier lifestyles.

The Harvest Food Hub will continue to operate until October 9, so there’s still time to explore this resource. Want to know more or sign up for a farm box? You can find all the details on their official site here.
