Discover How ,000 in Unclaimed Funds Was Reclaimed by The Health Plan: Your Guide to Securing Lost Assets

WHEELING — Recently, The Health Plan was able to recover over $32,000 that had been lost in a mix-up, thanks to West Virginia Treasurer Larry Pack. During his visit to their Wheeling headquarters, Pack presented a check for $32,571.84, emphasizing that this was money that rightfully belonged to the organization.

Pack remarked, “We’re here today returning about $32,000 in property that was lost in the financial shuffle. It’s great to help them out because they do important work in our community.” He highlighted that unclaimed funds are a significant part of his office’s mission, revealing that they manage around $400 million in unclaimed money for West Virginians.

In August alone, Pack’s office returned over $1.2 million to individuals and businesses. Last fiscal year, they managed to return about $400 million, showing their commitment to reconnect people with their funds.

Part of Pack’s approach includes performing public presentations when returning funds. He believes this helps raise awareness about unclaimed property, prompting more people to check if they have money waiting for them.

Jeff Knight, CEO of The Health Plan, expressed gratitude for the funds. He said they plan to reinvest the money into the community, potentially lowering costs for members. The organization is already deeply involved in community support, awarding roughly $500,000 in scholarships to medical students and donating nearly the same amount to food banks across West Virginia each year.

As more states recognize the importance of transparency and efficiency in managing unclaimed properties, the trend isn’t just limited to West Virginia. According to a recent survey, around 60% of Americans are unaware of unclaimed funds that might belong to them. Experts suggest that public awareness campaigns could significantly improve the recovery of these funds.
