Aquiline Drones (AD), a top drone technology company in the U.S., has teamed up with Drone Volt to bring the LineDrone to America. This innovative drone is designed for inspecting and maintaining high-voltage power lines, thanks to advanced, non-contact measurement tools.

Innovative Drone Solutions
Hydro-Québec, Canada’s largest energy provider, helped develop the LineDrone. This company is known for its strong focus on research and development, particularly in using robotics for power line inspections, through its Institute de recherche d’Hydro-Québec (IREQ) since 1967.
Using artificial intelligence (AI), Aquiline Drones plans to roll out LineDrone inspection services across the country. This drone can land on live power lines (up to 315,000 volts), inspecting them without shutting down the electricity. It uses unique technology to evaluate the condition of overhead wires, ensuring safety and efficiency.
The LineDrone drastically cuts down the need for expensive helicopter inspections and risky manual checks, making it a safer and more eco-friendly option in the energy sector. As the demand for effective grid management grows, this partnership aims to change how utility companies maintain their infrastructure.
Aquiline Drones will leverage its expertise in drone operations and compliance to help utilities implement this technology. Barry Alexander, Founder and CEO of Aquiline Drones, shares, “Working with Drone Volt helps us bring safer, efficient solutions to the market.” He emphasizes that advanced AI and cloud tech will set a new benchmark for high-voltage inspections.
In a similar spirit to AD’s Flight to the Future (F2F) online training, the LineDrone initiative intends to develop skilled drone service providers across the U.S. With over 600,000 miles of transmission lines in the country, there is a significant opportunity for workforce growth in this area.
AD’s goals for LineDrone services include:
- Widespread availability of LineDrone services in the U.S.
- Training for drone pilots to support energy professionals using this technology.
- Insurance options focused on those trained through AD’s programs.
- Contract opportunities for drone service providers working with AD.
Regular maintenance of transmission lines is essential, and the LineDrone simplifies this process by removing the risks and complexities of traditional methods. This system saves time and reduces the need for helicopters and manual inspections, leading to safer operations.
Marc Courcelle, CEO of Drone Volt, notes that this partnership enhances their offerings in advanced power grid inspection systems. Aquiline Drones stands out as a provider with a complete suite of drone solutions, from training to insurance.
