Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) is stepping up to support India’s healthcare by enhancing medical training at its Central Hospital in Dhanbad. They’ve recently added an Ophthalmology course, bringing the total to five specialized areas for Diplomate of National Board (DNB) training. This makes CHD the most well-rounded DNB center among all Coal India subsidiaries.
Here’s a quick look at the DNB programs offered at CHD:
- General Medicine: 4 seats (3-year course after MBBS)
- General Surgery: 2 seats (3-year course after MBBS)
- Anaesthesia: 2 seats (1 seat for a 3-year course and 1 for a 2-year diploma after MBBS)
- Family Medicine: 2 seats (2-year diploma after MBBS)
- Ophthalmology: 2 seats (2-year diploma after MBBS)
The DNB qualification, given by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), holds the same value as MD/MS degrees in India, ensuring that the training at CHD meets high educational standards.
What’s particularly noteworthy is that CHD has set aside 50% of its DNB seats for doctors already working for Coal India and its subsidiaries. This move aims to promote internal talent and offer them a chance to specialize. The other half is open to candidates from across India, creating a diverse and competitive environment for learning.
