Lyle is a charming three-year-old mixed-breed dog searching for his forever home. After surviving a hurricane in North Carolina in 2024, Lyle made his way to the Toronto Humane Society. He’s been there for over a year now.
Lyle is sweet and affectionate, but he does have some challenges. He’s anxious and requires medication to help with that, which can be taken with his meals. Despite his anxiety, Lyle shines in training. He’s quick to learn and enjoys spending quiet time with his humans.
Lucas Solowey, a spokesman for the shelter, says Lyle is a great companion. “He’s not one to jump around,” he explains. “He loves to cuddle and prefers a calm environment.” He’s been doing well in training classes and shows a lot of potential.
However, Lyle isn’t fond of other dogs or even pigeons, which can make city walks a bit overwhelming for him. “He gets overstimulated by busy environments,” Solowey adds, noting that Lyle’s ideal home would be quiet and free from other pets.
Interestingly, Lyle could thrive in a home with older children. He is best suited to a peaceful neighborhood, where he won’t be surprised by loud noises or sudden movements. Solowey emphasizes the importance of patience and understanding in Lyle’s potential new family.
This situation reflects a broader trend. Many pets, like Lyle, require understanding and training to adapt after traumatic experiences. With crises like natural disasters on the rise due to climate change, shelters often find animals with unique needs. According to the ASPCA, more than 6 million animals enter U.S. shelters every year, and many face similar behavioral challenges.
