Windows enthusiast Phantomofearth recently shared updates on file operation dialogs that now feature a dark theme. So, when you’re copying or deleting files, you’ll see a sleek dark interface instead of the old light one. However, it’s still a work in progress—some buttons remain bright instead of dark.
While Microsoft hasn’t officially confirmed these updates, they hint that a larger overhaul might be on the way with the upcoming 25H2 version. Many parts of the operating system, like the Control Panel and file properties, still show in light mode, raising hopes for a more uniform experience soon.
Historically, Microsoft has taken its time. It was years before File Explorer in Windows 10 finally got a dark mode. In comparison, Apple introduced a consistent dark mode in macOS Mojave back in 2018 and is set to unveil an updated Liquid Glass design later this year, focusing on translucency.
Users on social media have mixed reactions. Some welcome the dark theme updates, praising them for reducing eye strain during late-night work sessions. Others share their frustrations, wishing for quicker changes to outdated features.
Interestingly, a survey by Statista found that around 82% of users prefer dark mode for its aesthetic and comfort benefits. This growing preference suggests that companies like Microsoft may feel increased pressure to keep up with user demands.
