Discover How PERURI’s Karawang Climate Village Program is Building Resilient, Sustainable Communities

PERURI launched the Climate Village Program (ProKlim) to help communities adapt to climate change. This initiative focuses on grassroots efforts to foster collaboration in social, economic, and environmental aspects. Recently, the program was inaugurated at the Griya Indah Housing Hall in Parungmulya Village, Karawang Regency. Key attendees included Yahdi Lil Ihsan from PERURI, Neneng, the Village Secretary, and Indra Puspita, the local ProKlim group leader.

The Climate Village Program is part of a broader national strategy from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry aimed at fostering community engagement in climate action. Since 2022, PERURI has been committed to this program, emphasizing environmental quality and community empowerment through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) initiatives.

This year’s efforts are centered on four major areas: food security, waste management, a green economy, and community engagement. These components are designed to work together to enhance both environmental health and the well-being of Parungmulya’s residents.

“The Climate Village Program strengthens community resilience by involving citizens,” explained Yahdi in a recent press release. “It promotes a healthier environment while boosting community welfare and independence.”

As part of the program, members received hydroponic plants and waste management tools using the Takakura method. A new Green House was also inaugurated to support food security and environmental education.

Indra Puspita highlighted the importance of collaboration for success. “This program thrives on continuous support from PERURI,” he noted. “Over three years, the community has gained the knowledge to run sustainable environmental initiatives.”

Village Secretary Neneng echoed this sentiment, stating, “The benefits of PERURI’s TJSL Program are evident in our community. It helps manage agriculture and waste more sustainably, leading to real improvements in daily life.”

Through the Climate Village Program, PERURI aims to foster community spirit and contribute to a more resilient environment amid climate challenges. By directly involving locals, ProKlim promotes actionable steps that significantly enhance environmental resilience and residents’ quality of life.

Recent statistics show that community-led sustainability programs can reduce waste and improve agricultural yields significantly. Studies indicate that when communities take an active role in climate initiatives, they can lower their carbon footprint and become more self-sufficient, making projects like ProKlim vital for the future.

By prioritizing community involvement, the Climate Village Program demonstrates how collaborative efforts can lead to meaningful environmental changes.
