Discover How Seven Indian Companies Are Elevating India-US Space and Defence Collaboration

Seven Indian private companies have been selected for a groundbreaking India-U.S. space and defense collaboration program. This initiative opens a new and lucrative market for Indian firms, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The companies involved include KaleidEO, a space imaging firm, and rocket manufacturers EtherealX and Aadyah Space. They will collaborate with the U.S. Defense Innovation Unit and other government agencies on satellite observation and emerging technologies in space and defense.

In exchange, these firms will gain access to the largest defense and space market in the world. They will receive mentorship and potentially lucrative contracts while working alongside U.S. defense giants like Northrop Grumman, RTX, and Lockheed Martin.

This collaboration could give Indian companies a significant advantage in the competitive U.S. market, which is estimated to be worth around $1.5 billion annually. Sources have requested anonymity as an official announcement has yet to be made.

The program is a part of the India-U.S. Defense Acceleration Ecosystem, established in 2023 to foster innovation between the two countries. This move comes as India aims to grow its defense and space sectors while decreasing its dependence on Russia.

IndusBridge Ventures, an Indian investor, and U.S.-based FedTech selected the seven companies and are currently discussing potential projects. Access to the U.S. defense market could be transformative for these Indian firms, potentially generating annual revenues of between $500 million and $1 billion.

The primary goal is to enable Indian companies to partner with the U.S. Department of Defense and establish a presence in the U.S. commercial space launch market.

Recently, Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met with U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in New Delhi. They discussed enhancing cooperation in space technology and military solutions, emphasizing the need for cutting-edge commercial technologies.
