American Public University System Advances Global Digital Journey Through Innovative Faculty Research

CHARLES TOWN, W. Va., Feb. 20, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The American Public University System (APUS) is celebrating exciting research developments. In 2024, faculty secured grants for 19 projects spanning North America, Europe, and Asia. These initiatives show a strong commitment to academic growth and global collaboration.
About 50 students took part in these research projects, diving into data collection and analysis. This hands-on involvement underscores the University’s focus on experiential learning and allows students to apply classroom theories in real-world scenarios.

Research Highlights
Dr. Daniel Diaz – Listen to Our Voices
Dr. Diaz is exploring the rich culture and languages of Nahuatl-speaking communities in Mexico. His work aims to create educational resources that promote the preservation of Indigenous languages.
Dr. Kelly Chinners Reiss and Dr. Daniela Messina – WaterTAP
This project distributes over 700 water testing kits to improve drinking water quality and public health. It empowers students to understand more about the science behind the water they consume daily.
Dr. Melissa Schnyder – Native Fishpond Restoration in Hawaii
Dr. Schnyder’s research focuses on restoring traditional Hawaiian fishponds, promoting sustainable food systems while respecting cultural heritage.
APUS Analog Research Group (AARG)
The AARG, guided by Dr. Kristen Miller, conducted several successful research missions, including studies on plant growth in a lunar habitat. Their efforts contribute to our understanding of life in extreme environments.
COVID-19 Research in Kodiak, Alaska
Dr. Kristin Drexler and her team traveled to Kodiak to explore how Indigenous communities navigated the COVID-19 pandemic without official lockdowns. Their findings aim to document unique experiences during this global crisis.
