On April 1, 2026, New York State revealed a new program aimed at supporting farmers facing climate change challenges. Governor Kathy Hochul announced that over $25 million would be awarded to 133 farms across 23 counties through the Climate Resilient Farming Grant Program.
This initiative aims to help farmers reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect water quality and soil health. It’s all about making farms more resilient to climate change.
So far, the state has invested a total of $94 million in 700 farms, cutting down about 642,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year. Notably, almost half of this funding has focused on reducing methane emissions, accounting for about 94% of the overall reduction.
“New York State has always been a frontrunner in addressing climate change, especially by supporting our farmers. It’s essential for our environment and the economic future of agriculture in the state,” said Governor Hochul.
This round of funding will benefit eight regions, including Central New York, the Southern Tier, and the Finger Lakes. In the Southern Tier, $3.73 million will be shared among 33 farms, while Central New York will receive $6 million for 11 farms. The Finger Lakes region is set to receive a hefty $11.31 million for 57 farms.
“These grants are vital for our climate action efforts. They provide farmers with tools to lower greenhouse gas emissions and boost water quality,” said Assemblymember Donna Lupardo.

Climate change can threaten food production, which makes these efforts even more crucial. According to a survey by the National Farmers Union, around 72% of farmers believe climate change impacts their operations. By investing in climate-resilient practices, New York aims to keep its agricultural sector strong and sustainable.
