JAKARTA – Coffee shops are more than just places to grab a drink; they have become social hubs where people work and unwind. Lately, specialty coffee has gained traction, especially among younger crowds who want quality without the fuss.

In response to this trend, ZUS COFFEE is entering the Indonesian market through a partnership with Kapal Api Group. This exciting arrival gives coffee lovers another option in a city where coffee culture is thriving.

Founded in Kuala Lumpur in 2019, ZUS COFFEE has quickly spread across Southeast Asia, with locations in Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Brunei, and Thailand. By 2025, they aim to have over 1,000 outlets globally.

“Indonesia is crucial for us because of its rich coffee heritage and vibrant consumer market,” said Venon Tian, COO of ZUS COFFEE. Their coffee shop focuses on tech-based services through a user-friendly app that streamlines ordering, payment, and loyalty rewards. This modern approach suits people with busy lifestyles.

The app is not just for customers. It also helps “Zuristas,” the baristas at ZUS COFFEE, serve drinks quickly and efficiently. The menu will feature options tailored to local preferences, including Americano and Latte, as well as unique offerings like the Spanish Latte.

ZUS COFFEE also takes local flavor into account, offering items like Gula Melaka Latte in Malaysia and Thai Milk Tea in Thailand. In Indonesia, they plan to collaborate with Taufan Mokoginta, a renowned Indonesian coffee roaster, to create special blends that reflect local tastes.

This expansion not only introduces new coffee options but also aims to boost Indonesia’s coffee culture, fostering collaborations with local suppliers and creating job opportunities. The first Indonesian store is set to open in Puri Indah Mall, Jakarta, by the end of May 2026.

A growing number of consumers, especially Millennials and Gen Z, are driving this trend toward specialty coffee shops. According to a survey by The NPD Group, coffee shop visits surged by 8% in recent years, reflecting the shift toward coffee as a lifestyle choice.

As ZUS COFFEE joins the Indonesian coffee scene, it will be interesting to see how local tastes influence its success and how it contributes to the dynamic coffee culture in the region.
