YouTube is making some changes to how we search for videos. Soon, you’ll be able to find only Shorts or only long-form videos. Currently, searching mixes both types, which can be frustrating if you want just one format. The new filters will let you choose between “Videos” for long-form content and “Shorts” for quick clips.
Additionally, YouTube is removing some filters that haven’t been very helpful. The “Upload Date – Last Hour” and “Sort by Rating” options are going away due to user complaints. Instead, they’ll keep other useful filters like “Today,” “This week,” “This Month,” and “This Year.” They’re introducing a new filter called “Popularity.” This will help you see trending videos by taking into account views and watch time.
Another change is that the “Sort By” menu will now be called “Prioritize.” YouTube hopes this will make searching easier for users.
Interestingly, according to a recent survey by Pew Research Center, over 60% of YouTube users expressed wanting better filtering options to find the content they love. These updates seem to align with that feedback.
