Discover How Weixin’s DeepSeek is Supercharging China’s Leading Super App!

Tencent Holdings is currently testing a new feature in Weixin, China’s leading super app. They are looking to enhance their services with the help of AI, which will aid everything from social networking to e-payments and ride-hailing.
During this beta test, users can find an “AI Search” option in the Weixin search bar. This allows them to use the DeepSeek service along with Tencent’s own Hunyuan model, as mentioned by a Tencent spokesperson. However, this feature is not yet available in WeChat, the international version of the app.

According to Tencent, users can freely access the full version of the DeepSeek-R1 model for a richer search experience.

DeepSeek-R1, launched by a start-up in Hangzhou on January 20, has gained attention both in China and globally. It offers impressive reasoning abilities, often compared to those of advanced models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, but at a fraction of the training costs.

If DeepSeek joins Weixin, it would empower 1.3 billion monthly users, allowing them to chat, share files, watch videos, send money, and shop—all in one place.
