In Southern Indiana, sauerkraut isn’t considered unusual. However, people elsewhere see sauerkraut balls as strange. According to a list from 24/7 Tempo, these are the weirdest food in Indiana. Unfortunately, trying kraut balls isn’t on my agenda.
The Gerst Haus in Evansville serves Bavarian Kraut Balls. They mix ground beef, pork, and sauerkraut with cream cheese, roll it in breadcrumbs, and fry it. It sounds interesting but definitely not for me!
Benedictine: What’s That?
I came across something called Benedictine from Kentucky. Honestly, I don’t even know how to say it! But it turns out to be the strangest food in Kentucky. Let’s take a peek at what goes into this dish.
Damaris Phillips, a popular chef from The Food Network, has a recipe for Benedictine that includes:

- Mayonnaise
- Salt and pepper
This dish is a creamy spread often served on sandwiches. It may sound odd to some, but it can be refreshing! While I might not dive in, I can appreciate the unique flavors.
