Discover India’s Textile Revolution at Bharat TEX 2025: Insights from Minister Giriraj Singh on Innovation and Global Sourcing

The Indian textile sector is gearing up for big things with the Bharat TEX 2025 event. This Global Mega Textile Event aims to showcase the strength of India’s textile value chain and highlight recent innovations in fashion. NIFT, the National Institute of Fashion Technology, is making waves globally. They’ve partnered with over 22 institutions across 14 countries, including the UK, France, and the US. These collaborations are formalized through memorandums of understanding (MoUs), focusing on student and faculty exchanges, joint research, and developing curriculums that reflect global standards.

One exciting trend is how these international engagements are helping students and faculty embrace global design ideas and technological advancements. Over the last five years, about 100 NIFT students have taken part in exchange programs, and there is a reciprocal interest from partner institutions as well. This exposure is vital for students to cultivate skills that stand out in competitive global markets.

A key focus for NIFT is sustainability. The institute is leveraging its partnerships to push forward ethical practices in fashion and textiles. Collaborations with institutions like FIT in New York and UAL in the UK are developing modules centered on sustainable fashion.

In fact, recent statistics show that the sustainable fashion market is expected to reach $8.25 billion by 2023. This spotlight on sustainability aligns with the global demand for responsible production practices.

NIFT is also active in integrating sustainability into its education programs. Faculty members participate in global forums discussing eco-conscious fashion practices while students engage in projects and exhibitions emphasizing sustainability. These initiatives not only prepare students for industry challenges but also enhance India’s reputation as a leader in textile innovation.

In a recent discussion in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Textiles Giriraj Singh highlighted these advancements, reaffirming the government’s commitment to fostering growth and sustainability within the textile sector.
