K.M. Knitwear Private Limited and Jeyavishnu Clothing Private Limited are two key players in India’s strong textile scene, based in Tiruppur. They cover everything in the textile journey, from raw materials to finished products. Excitement is building as they prepare for Bharat Tex 2025, an important trade show in New Delhi.
K.M. Subramanian, Chairman of K.M. Knitwear and President of the Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA), shares, “We are proud to be part of Bharat Tex. It highlights the growing strength of the Indian textile industry.”
This past year has shown promise for the Indian textile sector. Subramanian notes, “2024 has been a good year for us, especially in Tiruppur. The region has bounced back strongly since the pandemic.” With easing global tensions, demand has increased, leading to more orders.
He also emphasizes the growth in the knitwear industry, saying, “We’ve seen around 15% growth over the last six months. Tiruppur’s robust infrastructure and commitment to sustainability have propelled this success.”
India has become a go-to sourcing destination for international buyers. “With global uncertainties, many are looking for stable options, and India has proven to be a reliable choice. American companies are increasingly turning to Tiruppur for their supply needs,” Subramanian explains.
Tiruppur’s strengths lie in its sustainable practices. “We are committed to being Environmentally, Socially, and Governed (ESG) compliant. Our modern manufacturing facilities contribute to our growth and help us aim for ambitious export targets,” he adds.
K.M. Knitwear is also expanding its reach. “In the past three years, our American market share has grown to 40%. Our group revenue has surpassed Rs. 1,200 crore, showing steady growth,” Subramanian states.
To support this growth, the company has invested significantly in infrastructure, including a new spinning unit and expanded dyeing facilities. “We invested Rs. 400 crore two years ago, which will strengthen our production capabilities,” he notes.
Subramanian leads the TEA with a vision of making Tiruppur a top knitwear hub. He credits initiatives like the 100% Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) policy and the creation of around 2000 MW of green energy for the region’s success. “These efforts have helped establish Tiruppur as an ESG-compliant cluster,” he says.
Looking ahead, Subramanian sees growth in the Man-Made Fiber (MMF) sector. “We are investing in polyester fabric manufacturing. Our goal is to transition about 15% of our production from cotton to MMF in the coming years,” he adds.
As the industry evolves, TEA is preparing for the future. “By 2027, new international standards for traceability will be in place. Consumers will soon be able to scan labels to learn about a garment’s origins. We are partnering with international agencies to stay ahead of these changes,” he explains.
As Bharat Tex 2025 approaches, the K.M. Knitwear team is ready to showcase their products. “We have a bigger booth this year and expect a great turnout. We’re excited to connect with visitors from around the world,” Subramanian concludes.
