The 2025 Leadership Pine Bluff Class recently enjoyed an enlightening day at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) and Southeast Arkansas College (SEARK). This event was filled with exciting moments and valuable insights about local education.
Participants began their day at UAPB, welcomed warmly by Interim Chancellor Andrea Stewart. They toured the campus, highlighting fascinating spots like the UAPB museum, the iconic bell tower, and the nursing school. The visit included a stop at the J. Thomas May Field House, and everyone enjoyed a tasty taco lunch. A standout moment was a unique presentation on honeybees, which sparked lively conversations among the group.
Next, they visited SEARK, where they interacted with key campus leaders, including the college president and the dean of students. They explored the impressive Technical Studies Building, peering into classrooms for HVAC and welding courses, and even got a glimpse of the Esports Room, which is becoming increasingly popular among students.
The Pine Bluff Regional Chamber of Commerce noted, “We are grateful for the hospitality from both UAPB and SEARK. They showcase the vital role our educational institutions play in shaping our community’s future. Southeast Arkansas truly excels in education.”
The Leadership Pine Bluff program, started in 1982, aims to empower individuals to make meaningful contributions to the community. The program helps participants broaden their perspectives on community issues while strengthening their leadership skills. It includes nine interactive sessions held once a month, allowing participants to connect with local leaders, professionals, and elected officials.
According to a recent survey by the Leadership Council, programs like this help increase civic engagement among graduates by over 40%. These connections often lead to collaborative community projects, fostering growth and development.
Applications for the 2026 Leadership Pine Bluff Class will open this September, providing a great opportunity for those eager to make a difference.
