In neighborhoods like Uni Place on 48th Street, local shops are getting ready for the influx of holiday shoppers. The creative district board organized a Small Business Saturday event, showcasing various local businesses.
At the LUX Center for the Arts, they’re excited about the chance to highlight their unique ties to the community. Andy Peterson, the director of programming there, shared a heartfelt perspective. “There’s so much out there that’s mass-produced and lacks thought. But at a small business, everything is personal. From the food you eat to the art on the walls, someone from your community has poured their heart into it. That connection is truly special.”
Supporting local doesn’t just feel good; it helps the community thrive. According to the mayor’s proclamation, for every $100 spent at local businesses, $68 stays in the community. This spending generates an additional $48 in local business activity. Advocates say this is vital for maintaining a vibrant community.
