Marta isn’t just a café; it’s a dream come true for Denise Arellano. Named after her grandmother, the café will start with a classic espresso menu, matcha, and delightful baked goods like cardamom chocolate conchas and heart-shaped antojitos. “We’re just getting started,” she says of her plans for the menu.
In the next phase, customers can expect a light breakfast and lunch menu filled with personal family recipes, highlighting Border cuisine. She describes dishes like ensalada casino, a unique Caesar salad twist popular in her hometown. “If you’re from Mexicali, you just know it,” she adds.
To create a warm, inviting atmosphere reminiscent of her grandmother’s home, Denise is redesigning the space with modern touches like green tiles and local ceramics. She hopes to feature barro verde, traditional Oaxacan ceramics, in the future.
