In a recent chat, Matty shared what he had for dinner: “Stuffed peppers that my mother-in-law made,” he said. “We thawed them from the freezer and cooked them with spaghetti and some extra sauce.” Sounds delicious, right?
When asked why his cookbook is titled Soups, Salads, Sandwiches, he said, “These recipes are special. Every time I make a salad, I make my favorite one. I often go for a chicken noodle soup, or my go-to sandwiches are a BLT or a tuna melt.” He wants readers to easily find what they’re craving. One standout recipe is a spam and kimchi grilled cheese melt. “That was insane, so good,” Matty exclaimed. But he admits, he doesn’t cook fancy dishes every day.
Matty loves how cookbooks hold a special place in people’s lives. “They’re timeless and tangible,” he explained. “You can hold them, and they age beautifully. I want my readers to feel a connection with my books that surpasses a quick online video.” He believes that these books showcase a more serious side of him, separate from his vibrant YouTube persona, which often leans toward a performance style to engage viewers.
If you had to pick, what would Matty choose: soup, salad, or sandwich? “Soup,” he said. “If I could eat pho every day, I would.”
And for a last meal on death row? “A proper roast beef dinner,” he responded, with Yorkshire pudding, prime rib, mashed potatoes, cream corn, and gravy topped with bone marrow.
When asked about his favorite UK restaurant, he mentioned Black Axe Mangal, expressing his love for their food.
If he could teach a dish to Carmy from The Bear, it would be a turkey leg soup from his cookbook. “Chewing on a turkey leg and enjoying some soup together sounds great,” he said.
