MILLIANS: A New Take on the Food Pyramid

Recently, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the head of the Health and Human Services Department, has reshaped our view on nutrition. He’s flipped the traditional food pyramid on its head, placing proteins, dairy, healthy fats, and plenty of fruits and vegetables at the top. This means saying goodbye to ultra-processed foods and sugar.

Essentially, he encourages us to eat more real food. That idea resonates with many.

But there’s another twist on the food pyramid—the Southern Food Pyramid. At the top? Sweet tea, of course. Below that, you’ll find a cozy collection of biscuits and cornbread on one side, and grits on the other. The next row is cheeky: banana pudding, peach cobbler, and pecan pie on one side, with fried chicken on the other. And at the base, a tribute to barbecue with brisket, pork, and ribs. Now, that’s a pyramid I could embrace!

Moving on to some fun food stories, have you seen the new chain, Biscuit Belly? Their organizational chart is amusing—CEO, VP of Operations, and even a Chief Biscuit Eater. It’s a quirky role that sounds delightful.

Speaking of quirky, former NFL star Tom Brady is now the face of Pizza Hut commercials. It raises the question: do you really need to eat Pizza Hut pizza to achieve better health? And with Girl Scout cookie season here, there’s a new addition—“Exploremores,” boasting chocolate, marshmallow, and toasted almond flavors. But for me, Thin Mints remain king.

On a different note, Tiger Woods recently celebrated his 50th birthday, hosting a party in West Palm Beach with around 300 friends. The menu featured favorites from his Masters dinners, showcasing a blend of great food and good company.

In fun local news, an 11-year-old named Nolan McGill from Chattanooga refused to sing “Rocky Top” in a Christmas play, insisting, “Georgia’s just better than Tennessee.” A fair opinion coming from a young Bulldogs fan!

Shifting gears to college sports, a recent CNBC valuation places the Georgia Bulldogs at $1.16 billion—fourth among college football teams. Texas leads at $1.48 billion, followed by Ohio State and Texas A&M.

Did you know the first Coca-Cola advertisement appeared in the “Atlanta Journal” in 1886? It was tiny, like two postage stamps, and touted the drink as “Delicious! Refreshing! Invigorating!” Fast forward to today, and Coca-Cola spends nearly $5 billion annually on advertising.

To end on a light note, a rescue donkey named Hope has set a world record for the longest ears, measuring almost 16 inches! And speaking of the bizarre, the world’s first flying car is now being produced in California—who would have thought we’d live to see that!

As we explore these light-hearted topics, it’s clear food ties us together, whether through yummy treats or lively debates. Let’s keep the conversations going!
