When Publix announced new ice cream flavors for the holiday season, excitement was in the air. Food reporters Diana Biederman and Eddie Ritz couldn’t wait to dive into the delicious world of ice cream. With 14 limited-edition flavors, including eight brand-new ones like Coffee Chai Latte and Bourbon Eggnog, it promised to be an exciting tasting adventure.
However, getting these flavors proved to be a challenge. It took visits to six different Publix stores in Palm Beach County to find seven out of the eight new flavors. What began as a simple outing became an epic quest for frozen treats.
On October 8, the Palm Beach Post newsroom transformed into a taste-testing arena. A team of journalists gathered, each eager to sample the latest offerings. The team was ready, but they were also aware that these flavors were flying off the shelves.
The Taste Test Results
Here’s how the new flavors stacked up:
Hot Honey Mascarpone Praline: This flavor stole the show. The creamy mascarpone base paired beautifully with crunchy pralines, and the hint of hot honey delivered a delightful kick that balanced the sweetness perfectly.
Raspberry Elegance: This was a close second. The interplay of raspberry sauce and white chocolate candy cups made for a lovely mix of tart and sweet flavors.
Bourbon Eggnog: This flavor rounded out the top three. While not containing real bourbon, it evoked cozy holiday vibes. For a fun twist, blending it with a splash of actual bourbon created a festive treat.
Interestingly, Chocolate Stout Pretzel Blitz was the most sought-after flavor, but it didn’t quite live up to expectations. The stout flavor was understated, leading to a profile more similar to cookies than a rich chocolate stout.
Texture and Indulgence
One curious observation during the tasting was the softness of the ice creams, even straight from the freezer. Compared to past taste tests, these flavors felt unexpected in consistency. If you plan to enjoy a pint, it might be best to indulge in one sitting.
These delightful new flavors are a seasonal treat, with pints priced at $5.49 and half-gallons at $6.59. As summer blends into fall, these unique ice creams provide a sweet way to embrace the change of seasons.
Overall, Publix continues to innovate and bring exciting flavors to ice cream lovers. If you’re curious to try these new offerings, now is the time, as they are available for a limited period.
