RENO, Nev. – The Wheyfarer is one of 26 local businesses taking part in this year’s Reno Food and Drink Week. This special event features a range of culinary delights throughout the city.

I spoke with Amy Lemon, the owner and chef at The Wheyfarer, about the unique menu they are offering. The Wheyfarer specializes in cheese and provisions, focusing on carefully sourced products from across the U.S. and beyond. They feature a variety of cheeses, selected for their peak ripeness and flavor.

Exciting Menu

Here’s a sneak peek at their prix fixe menu:

  • First Course: Baked brie with cherry jam, hot honey, and crostini.
  • Second Course: Cubano Panini with pulled pork, rosemary ham, Emmentaler cheese, mustard, and pickles, served with your choice of soup, salad, or potato chips.
  • Third Course: Crème brûlée with fresh berries.

As part of the Showcase, two other local spots, Red Bloom and Bistro Napa, are also in the running for The Medallion, an award based on guest feedback. This year, the top four establishments will advance for further judging, combining public scores with evaluations from secret judges.

Recent trends show a growing interest in local and artisanal food. According to a survey by the Specialty Food Association, 75% of consumers prefer locally sourced ingredients. Events like Reno Food and Drink Week allow local businesses to showcase their offerings while fostering community support.
