The South Carolina Department of Education is set to unveil the 2025 African American History Calendar on Wednesday night in Columbia. The event will kick off at 7 p.m. at the Koger Center for the Arts, located on Greene Street. Judi Gaston, a familiar face in local news, will host the evening.

This year’s calendar is particularly meaningful as it honors the Emanuel Nine, the victims of the tragic shooting at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston in 2015. While they were commemorated in a previous calendar, this year shifts the focus to their families, celebrating their continued impact and legacy.
Each year, the calendar features South Carolinians who have made a positive difference in their communities and beyond. Originally created in 1989 by Southern Bell, the project has grown significantly. Now, over 25,000 calendars are printed and shared with schools, churches, and community centers, shining a light on South Carolina’s rich African American history and culture.
