San Juan County’s Department of Health & Community Services just released its 2025 Impact Report. This report shines a light on how various programs, services, and partnerships have supported the health of island residents over the past year.

“I’m proud to share this report with our community and celebrate our achievements,” said Mark Tompkins, the Director of Health & Community Services. “Thanks to everyone who has contributed to our mission. We’re grateful to serve such a wonderful community.”

The report highlights key data and accomplishments, such as:

  • 577 immunizations administered.
  • 271 home and community visits through the Growing Families program.
  • $444,000 worth of dental care for 577 patients, thanks to partnerships with organizations like DentALL and the Orcas Island Community Foundation.
  • 38,078 meals prepared through the Senior Nutrition program, collaborating with local nonprofits.
  • $2.4 million allocated from the SJC Home Fund for new housing projects.
  • An increase of 25 preschool spots on San Juan Island.
  • 1,759 appointments through the WIC program, which supports women, infants, and children.
  • 219 food establishment inspections completed.

The report also shares stories from community members that showcase the real impact of these services. These accounts illustrate how programs help older adults maintain their independence, support families, and ensure children receive proper care and educational opportunities.

In recent studies, community health officials have pointed out that access to local health services significantly improves overall well-being. For instance, a 2022 survey revealed that communities with robust health programs saw a 20% decrease in hospitalization rates among seniors. This further underlines the importance of the health services documented in the report.

Residents are encouraged to explore the full report online at San Juan County Health & Community Services Impact Report.

The report was highlighted during the Board of Health meeting on March 18, where staff reviewed its findings. Health & Community Services looks forward to continuing its work and serving the community in 2026.
