The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has revealed its nominees for 2026, offering an exciting mix of artists from various genres. This year’s list includes:

- Joy Division/New Order

Ten of these artists are being nominated for the first time, such as Jeff Buckley and Phil Collins. In contrast, seven artists, including Mariah Carey and Iron Maiden, are returning after previous nominations. It’s worth noting that last year’s ballot had only 14 nominees, so this year’s lineup is quite robust.
Liam Gallagher, the lead singer of Oasis, has been vocal against the Hall in the past, but that hasn’t stopped the committee from considering the band once again. Interestingly, this marks the third nomination for Carey, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, and Oasis since 2021.
Pink is the standout debut nominee in her first year of eligibility since her first album was released in 2000. This year seems to lean toward newer artists, all of whom started their careers in the 1980s or later, despite calls for the inclusion of classic rock acts from the ’60s and ’70s.
Phil Collins is already a Hall of Famer, inducted as part of Genesis. Jeff Buckley, a lesser-known figure, is nominated based solely on his iconic single album, “Grace,” released in 1994 before his untimely death in 1997.
The debate over the Hall’s selective genre representation continues. Only about half of this year’s nominees could be classified purely as rock, leaving room for pop and hip-hop. Notably, country music is again absent from this year’s nominations, with Dolly Parton being the only representative inducted in the last 23 years.
Voting will take place over the next couple of months, and the results will be announced in April. Along with the chosen inductees, the Hall will also reveal honorees in special categories like Musical Influence and Musical Excellence.
As the music landscape evolves, the diversity among nominees reflects changing tastes and the influence of different music genres. While long-time rock fans may feel overlooked, the Hall’s choices showcase the rich variety of music that influences today’s artists.
