Music is the heartbeat of the festival. Winston Morgan admires the mix of performances. “The variety keeps it lively. I love the zydeco and swamp rock, though I wish I could line dance,” he laughs.

Just a short walk away, Pharr Chapel United Methodist Church is hosting an exhibit that showcases the festival’s roots and the local culture. Greig Chauvin, the exhibit coordinator, believes understanding the past is vital. “To know where you’re going, you have to know where you came from. Our history is fascinating and impacts our lives today,” he says.
For vendors like Alexandra Benjamin, selling her cheesecake is about more than just food. “It’s about community. I love seeing familiar faces and spreading joy,” she notes.
Minor echoes this sentiment. “Every praline I sell brightens someone’s day. If I can make a difference, that’s a win for me,” he shares.
As the festival continues through Monday, it’s not just about shrimp and petroleum; it’s a celebration of culture, community, and shared experiences.
