India’s railway system is getting another boost with the launch of the Ajni-Pune Vande Bharat Express. This new semi-high-speed train will travel between Ajni (Nagpur) and Pune, and it’s set to be unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon. This service is designed to enhance connectivity in Maharashtra.
The Ajni-Pune Vande Bharat Express will cover a distance of 881 kilometers in just 12 hours, making it the fastest option on this route. For comparison, the Pune Humsafar and Azad Hind Expresses are slower. This speed can greatly improve travel efficiency for both business and leisure passengers.
This train, numbered 26101/26102, will operate six days a week. It takes a break on Tuesdays and Mondays. Along its route, it will stop at ten stations, including Wardha, Badnera, and Jalgaon, providing access to various regions along the way.
Starting from August 11, 2025, the Pune-Ajni train will leave Pune at 6:25 AM and arrive in Ajni at 6:25 PM. The reverse journey from Ajni will begin at 9:50 AM, reaching Pune by 9:50 PM on August 12, 2025.
This train will feature eight coaches, accommodating around 590 passengers in total. There is one Executive Chair Car (EC) for those who seek added comfort, alongside seven Chair Cars (CC).
One of the highlights of the Vande Bharat trains is the range of passenger amenities. All coaches are air-conditioned, with automatic temperature control to ensure comfort based on occupancy. They also feature large panoramic windows for great views, bio-vacuum toilets, and ergonomic seating designed for long journeys.
Safety is another priority. The train includes fire detection systems, CCTV for surveillance, and an advanced braking system that saves energy. All these features make travel safer and more enjoyable.
In 2022, the Indian Railways reported a surge in passenger numbers, indicating a growing trust in rail travel. Surveys show that over 70% of travelers prefer train travel for longer journeys due to comfort and cost-effectiveness. This Vande Bharat Express is expected to attract even more passengers and contribute to this trend.
As the Ajni-Pune Vande Bharat Express prepares to take to the tracks, it’s evident that Indian Railways is committed to providing faster, safer, and more convenient travel options for its passengers.
