The Seven Seas Food Festival has some standout dishes, but not everything hits the mark. One dish this year that really missed the boat is the Guinness Cheese Nachos at the Irish Marketplace.
Last season, the Irish Marketplace introduced the Reuben Egg Roll, also criticized as a “worst item.” Shockingly, it’s back again this year. This pattern continues, highlighting that not every dish is treated equal.
The Guinness Cheese Nachos come with kettle chips, a cheese sauce that claims to be made with Guinness, pico de gallo, and jalapeños. Sounds like a tasty combination? Well, not quite. Instead of a flavorful explosion, we got a drab plate. The cheese sauce tasted bland. It lacked the rich flavor you’d expect from a dish boasting Guinness. Instead, it felt more like a polite suggestion rather than a bold statement. The kettle chips added some crunch, but the toppings were sparse and underwhelming. The jalapeños barely brought any spice, similar to a friend who promises to turn up the heat but only delivers mild salsa.
It’s worth noting that the Irish Marketplace has plans to rotate its nacho menu. After the Guinness Nachos, look out for the Corned Beef Nachos from March 12 to April 12, followed by the Pub Nachos from April 16 to May 17. Let’s hope these future offerings are better received.
According to recent surveys, festival-goers prioritize flavor and creativity in food festival offerings. In 2022, a poll showed that over 70% of attendees felt that tasty food options significantly enhance their experience. It appears that this year’s Guinness Cheese Nachos might not cater to these expectations.
As food preferences continue to evolve, it seems the event organizers might want to rethink how they approach their menu. After all, a foodie’s trust can be quickly lost over a disappointing dish.
