Haymarket Gainesville Lifestyle Magazine is celebrating its 15th annual “Best Of” contest. This contest shines a spotlight on local businesses—everything from cafes to yoga studios—that make western Prince William County a wonderful place to live.

In this contest, local residents nominate and vote for their favorite businesses and organizations. While nominations are now closed, voting is open until June 10. Everyone can cast their votes daily, and nominees are encouraged to reach out to their customers and friends to spread the word.

Last year, the magazine saw impressive participation, with over 25,000 votes cast across 123 categories. So far, this year has garnered 16,000 votes, and there’s hope to double that number.

Winners of the contest will be featured in the August issue of the magazine, which reaches 12,000 homes and businesses in Gainesville and Haymarket. Each winner receives a certificate and a digital logo to showcase their achievement. Notably, first-time winners and those who haven’t won in five years or more will have a chance to be highlighted with a short article in the magazine, and one will even make it to the cover.

Moreover, winners can purchase expanded mentions in the magazine, allowing them to present more information about their business.

Interestingly, community contests like this one foster a sense of local pride. Research shows that supporting local businesses boosts the local economy and creates stronger community ties. According to a 2021 survey by the National Federation of Independent Business, 80% of people believe that supporting local stores helps create jobs in the community.
