Murena, known for privacy-first smartphones, has now launched its first tablet. This French company offers a custom Android version called /e/OS. It strips away Google’s apps and services, ensuring your data stays private. The new Murena Pixel Tablet is based on Google’s Pixel Tablet from 2023. While you won’t find color options or more than 128GB of storage, you will enjoy the comfort of knowing a major corporation isn’t tracking your activities.
To enhance your privacy, Murena has removed the Google Play Store from the Pixel Tablet. You can still find apps in /e/OS’ App Lounge, which lets you browse and download free apps anonymously. However, to get paid apps, you’ll need a Google account.
While Google’s popular productivity apps are not part of the package, the Murena Pixel Tablet comes with privacy-friendly alternatives. You’ll find apps for messaging, email, maps, web browsing, calendars, contacts, notes, and voice recordings.
Murena Workspace offers a suite of productivity tools similar to Google Docs and Microsoft Office 365, along with 1GB of secure online storage at no cost. If you need more space, you can upgrade to 20GB for $2.49 monthly or $24.90 annually, and even go up to 128GB for $7.49 monthly or $74.90 per year.
