Discover the Delicious Excitement: Food Truck Fest Draws Throngs to Downtown Hattiesburg!

Hattiesburg recently celebrated its fifth annual Taste of the South Food Truck Festival on October 4. This vibrant event took place downtown and brought together food lovers, local vendors, and lively music from DJ Kuhjo.

Hosted by the Hattiesburg Jaycees and Fairley’s Wings & More, the festival showcased a mouthwatering array of food trucks. Attendees enjoyed everything from seafood and barbecue to international dishes and sweet treats.

Karl Eisenring, president of Junior Chamber International, highlighted the festival’s importance. “As Jaycees, we focus on community development and economic impact,” he noted. Events like this increase tax revenue, benefiting both Hattiesburg and the surrounding region.

The festival attracted over 3,000 visitors, who filled the streets with laughter, dancing, and delicious food. Local hotspots like The Lucky Rabbit and the Pocket Museum also enjoyed a boost in foot traffic. One standout vendor, Nasty Cajun Seafood from New Orleans, sold out within just three hours. Owner Malik Muhammad beamed, “We came over and shut it down!”

Many other vendors faced similar successes, with several selling out before the festival wrapped up at 6 p.m. This year, the festival featured more than thirty vendors, with proceeds aimed at leadership development programs for future community leaders.

Food festivals can significantly impact local economies. According to a recent study by the National Association of Food Trucks, these events can boost local spending by as much as 25%. They create a sense of community while supporting small businesses.

Hattiesburg hosts several events throughout the year, with Live at Five at Town Square Park on October 10 and the Fall Festival at the Forrest County Farmers Market on October 11.
