India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is set to enhance travel on the Kamakhya-Howrah route. The Ministry of Railways has announced that the onboard menu will feature regional specialties. For instance, the IRCTC has curated special menus for the Howrah-Kamakhya route (train number 27575) and the reverse (train number 27576). Passengers on the Howrah-Kamakhya train will be served dishes like Basanti Pulao and Aloo Phool Kopi Bhaja, along with tasty desserts such as Sandesh and Rasgulla. On the Kamakhya-Howrah journey, options include Joha rice and Aloo Long Beans Bhaji, ending with sweets like Narikol Burfi.
This focus on regional fare aligns with recent surveys, which show that travelers increasingly value local food experiences. A study by the World Tourism Organization found that 84% of travelers want to taste local dishes during their trips. Such preferences highlight the significance of food in enhancing travel experiences.
