The YouTube app on TVs, including Google TV, is introducing a fresh sidebar design aimed at making navigation user-friendly. This update lets you find your favorite shows quicker and even highlights channels you’ve recently watched.
In the old layout, users had to sift through multiple tabs just to reach subscriptions or their library. Now, the revamped sidebar streamlines this process. The new design keeps the Search and Home options at the top. Just below, you’ll find direct access to Subscriptions and Library, plus shortcuts to two channels. It’s not clear if these channels are based on recent views or subscriptions, but they appear even in the sidebar’s minimized view.
Beneath these new additions, shortcuts for News, Live, Podcasts, Music, Gaming, and Sports round out the sidebar. However, what you see might vary depending on your TV model. Feedback from users shows that some are already noticing the change, with reports cropping up on different platforms.
A recent survey revealed that 70% of viewers prefer apps that offer easy access to their favorite content. This can significantly impact user satisfaction and retention. According to tech analyst Sarah Williams, “Simplicity in design is key. If users can’t find what they want quickly, they’re likely to look elsewhere.”
Beyond usability, the new design reflects YouTube’s ongoing effort to keep up with viewing trends. Many households now watch content through smart TVs, making app interface design crucial. This shift has been noted historically; years ago, TV interfaces were less integrated with internet services. Today, platforms like YouTube and others are competing for viewers’ attention, pushing for more intuitive experiences.
