Des Plaines is gearing up for its beloved summer festival, the Taste of Des Plaines, happening on June 13 and 14. This vibrant event will light up the downtown area with two days packed with live music, delicious food, and fun for everyone.

Food lovers will delight in offerings from 11 local vendors. You’ll find favorites like Charcoal Delights, Mexico Restaurant, and the Des Plaines Theatre’s Des Pizza among others.

Live music kicks off at 5 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday, featuring acts from a Taylor Swift tribute to ’80s rock. Friday night highlights include 7th Heaven, a band well-known for their ’70s and ’80s medleys. On Saturday, don’t miss Hairbangers Ball, a high-energy tribute to hair metal. Families can enjoy performances on the World Stage, with a bubble show, dance party, and improv group.

The Family Area will have activities until 8 p.m. for kids of all ages. The Purple Me Green Science Truck will offer hands-on STEM stations, where children can engage with animals and explore states of matter. You can also take part in fun activities like the micro-reality race or try the 20-foot rock climbing wall provided by the Des Plaines Park District.

According to a recent report by the National Association of Festivals, family-oriented activities are a growing trend among summer events, with about 70% of festivals now catering to families. This festival, like many others, is adapting to meet the needs of families seeking entertainment while fostering community connections.
