Rumors are swirling about a potential foldable iPhone, expected to debut late next year. Mark Gurman, a trusted tech journalist, shared in his newsletter that this device might resemble two iPhone Airs joined together.
This design could lead to a slim profile, although it may end up thicker than other foldables like the Pixel Fold (10.8mm) and Galaxy Z Fold7 (8.9mm). The iPhone Air has a thickness of 5.6mm, but some sources suggest the folded version could reach a mere 4.5mm when open. However, brace yourself for the price: it could start at around $2,000, significantly higher than its competitors.
An exciting aspect of this foldable design is its durability. Foldable phones have made progress, but durability is still a concern. Gurman indicated that the foldable iPhone will be crafted from titanium, similar to the iPhone Air. The iPhone Air received a repairability score of seven, which is quite good compared to foldables like the Pixel Fold and Galaxy Z Fold7, both scoring just three. In 2023, foldable smartphones accounted for 10% of total smartphone sales, a notable increase from previous years. Users have been vocal on social media about their hopes for improved features in future models, sparking discussions about design and technology.
