Watch out for increased foot and bike traffic in downtown Penticton starting this Saturday! The Downtown Community Market is back, along with a free bike valet service.
Drivers should prepare for road closures in the downtown area each Saturday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Expect some detours and additional parking challenges.
The Downtown Community Market will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Saturday until September 6, 2025. It takes place along 200 Main Street, Front Street, and Backstreet Boulevard. Here, you can find handcrafted goods, artisan foods, live music, and other entertainment. The market is organized by the Downtown Penticton Business Improvement Association. This market complements the weekly Penticton Farmers’ Market on Main Street, which also draws thousands of visitors. It showcases over 80 vendors with locally grown and crafted products. For info on the Farmers’ Market, visit pentictonfarmersmarket.org.
The bike valet service will be available at Gyro Park, managed by the City’s Environmental Outreach Ambassadors every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Last year, over 1,870 people took advantage of this service to securely park their bikes, scooters, and skateboards.
This initiative not only promotes local businesses but also encourages sustainable transportation. Each weekend, the vibrant atmosphere brings the community together, making it a festive occasion for families and tourists alike. With rising interest in local economies and sustainable living, markets like these are gaining popularity. They offer locals and visitors an opportunity to enjoy fresh produce, handmade crafts, and live entertainment, all while supporting local artisans and farmers.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that community markets have seen a resurgence post-pandemic, as people seek safer social gatherings and prefer local goods. So, whether you’re looking for fresh foods or unique gifts, the Downtown Community Market is a fantastic spot to explore!
