Classical Tahoe is teaming up with the University of Nevada, Reno School of Music to host Chamber Connections, a special residency for music students. This engaging event takes place from July 25 to 27, 2025. The aim is to boost students’ performance skills through direct collaboration with top-notch musicians from Classical Tahoe.
During these three days, 14 students will attend concerts and participate in masterclasses led by experienced musicians. They’ll get the chance to perform alongside faculty from their university and Classical Tahoe players who come from some of the best orchestras in the country. This mentorship will provide students with invaluable insights and feedback. They’ll also be part of various activities, including rehearsals and exciting concerts like “Beethoven Unbound” and “Music In Motion.”
Laura Hamilton, the artistic director of Classical Tahoe, highlighted the partnership’s value, saying, “Chamber Connections is a fantastic opportunity for both organizations, benefiting professional musicians, advanced students, and university faculty.” On July 26, there’s an exciting side-by-side concert featuring rarely performed works for larger chamber ensembles.
Reed Chamberlin, the School of Music Director, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. He noted that it not only offers high-quality educational experiences but also helps reach new audiences around the Reno/Tahoe area. “We thank Classical Tahoe and its supporters for making this possible,” he said.
The residency will wrap up with a free concert on July 26 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the mini-Pavilion on the Lou Sardella Student Commons at the University. This community event will showcase the students, faculty, and Classical Tahoe musicians performing together. Audiences can look forward to selections from:
- Joachim Raff: Sinfonietta, Op. 188 for Double Woodwind Quintet
- Michael Kamen: Dectet for Brass
- Max Bruch: String Octet in B-Flat Major, Op. posth.
Support for Chamber Connections comes largely from Lin Nelson, reflecting her passion for music and education.
If you’re interested in the broader context of music education, a recent study by the National Endowment for the Arts highlighted that music education programs significantly increase student engagement and academic achievement. Collaboration like this can be instrumental in shaping young musicians’ futures.
