A new entertainment experience has arrived in Inglewood, and it’s unlike anything you’ve seen before. Picture this: take musical theater, blend it with popular movie soundtracks, and present it as a rock concert. Now, imagine enjoying this show in a beautiful speakeasy setting with round tables and cozy booths. Add in a full menu of food and drinks, and you have CineVita, the latest performance venue at Hollywood Park.
Shane Scheel, co-founder of CineVita’s parent company For The Record, describes it well. He says it feels like a mix of attending a Broadway musical and rocking out at a Pink concert. It’s fresh and exciting, making it hard to define.
CineVita is all about immersing you in the music of classic films. Its opening show, “Tarantino | Pulp Rock,” pays tribute to legendary director Quentin Tarantino. Future productions will celebrate the works of other famous directors like Baz Luhrmann and Martin Scorsese.
Originally set to premiere in January, the launch was postponed due to wildfires in Los Angeles. However, excitement is high for this unique endeavor. Jen Sandstrom, who oversees programming at Hollywood Park, believes this experience will take guests back to cinema’s golden age with live performances.
The inaugural show features a talented cast of 14 and a live band. They’ll bring to life scenes from Tarantino’s films, including iconic dialogue and music from favorites like “Pulp Fiction” and “Kill Bill.” Plus, the legendary dance scene between Uma Thurman and John Travolta will make an appearance.
“It’s like stepping into the world of Quentin Tarantino for an evening,” Scheel says. The show captures the essence of Tarantino’s diverse body of work.
CineVita’s journey began when Scheel and actor Anderson Davis started hosting movie-themed music events in Hollywood back in 2010. They began with songs from Tarantino movies, and to their surprise, Tarantino himself showed up one night and encouraged them to expand their idea.
From those humble beginnings, they created For The Record, which has grown to present engaging shows worldwide, drawing in both loyal fans and celebrity supporters.
One standout feature of CineVita is its gorgeous spiegeltent, a term meaning “mirror tent” in Dutch. This stunning structure was imported from Belgium and features hand-carved wood, stained glass, and over 3,000 mirrors. Designed to evoke a sense of nostalgia, it’s the largest spiegeltent ever built, seating 680 guests for a more intimate experience.
CineVita cost around $5 million to launch, but Scheel is confident it will impress audiences. “When people walk in, they’ll be blown away. It’s truly special,” he notes.
The “Tarantino | Pulp Rock” show is directed by Davis, with music supervision by Jesse Vargas and choreography by Sumie Maeda. Notable cast members include Ty Taylor from Vintage Trouble, Loren Lott from “Young and the Restless,” and James Byous from Netflix’s “Westside.” Byous has regularly performed with For The Record and describes CineVita as an electrifying mix of cinema and rock music.
The show runs through March 9 and will eventually tour nationally before returning to Los Angeles. If you’re looking for something new and exciting, CineVita might just be the experience you need.
