YouTube is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and to mark the occasion, Google has rolled out some exciting new features across its platforms, including YouTube TV, YouTube Kids, and the main app.
According to a recent blog post, more than 20 million videos are uploaded to YouTube daily. That’s a staggering figure, highlighting just how much content flows through the platform.
One of the standout updates is a new version of the multiview feature on YouTube TV. This tool, previously limited to sports, now allows viewers to enjoy multiple non-sports programs simultaneously. For instance, one can watch ESPN, The Weather Channel, an episode of Law & Order, and Chopped from the Food Network all at once. YouTube plans to expand this feature with more channels in the coming months.
Alongside that, YouTube itself is introducing several enhancements. A voice reply option for comments will be available later this year. Moreover, an AI-driven tool called Ask Music will help you create personalized radio stations based on your mood. This feature is currently available to YouTube Premium and YouTube Music subscribers.
Premium members also get a speed-watching option, allowing playback at four times the normal speed. YouTube is also updating its TV app for better navigation, easier access to comments, and improved playback quality—especially since most YouTube views now originate from TVs rather than mobile devices.
Excitingly, some lesser-known features are gaining official recognition. For example, long-pressing the video player enables 2x speed playback, and you can lock the screen to avoid interruptions. Plus, there’s a sleep timer for late-night viewing.
The blog post also emphasizes useful keyboard shortcuts and introduces a Song Search feature that lets you hum or sing to identify songs.
In today’s digital age, YouTube remains a powerhouse in content consumption. A recent survey reported that nearly 80% of Americans use YouTube, making it a key player in entertainment and information.
As YouTube evolves, it continues to adapt to user preferences, setting the stage for even more innovative features in the future.
