Discover the Exciting New Food Court in Wilmington’s Expanding Cargo District!

WILMINGTON, NC — Exciting changes are happening in the Cargo District of downtown Wilmington. The Cargo West Food Court is almost ready, and local businesses are buzzing with anticipation.

This new food court will showcase seven different restaurants, along with a fun arcade and bar. Currently, five businesses have opened, offering food through convenient walk-up windows.

Alena Degon is the proud owner of Sinful Cupcakes, which opened in December 2024. “For a while, I was the only one here,” Alena shared. She moved from elsewhere to start her business and loves the unique atmosphere of the Cargo District.

“The vibe here is just perfect for me,” she said. “It’s this great mix of small businesses, artists, and a community feel.”

The food court promises a wide variety of options. “You can find everything from sushi to BBQ. Plus, the barcade will have drinks and seating next to fire pits, along with pool tables and corn hole,” Alena explained.

Not only do business owners like Alena feel optimistic, but the long-time residents of the Cargo District are also welcoming these new additions. “Many people have been waiting for new spots like this,” she added.

Chloe Davis, who works at Sunset Slush Italian Ice, also noticed a change in the atmosphere. “We used to be on Castle Street, and it was pretty quiet. But since we moved here, it’s been so much busier. The Cargo District is really coming to life,” she said.

The grand opening for the Cargo West Food Court is set for April 13th, coinciding with the Port City Shake Up Cocktail Competition. With local businesses thriving, this new space is sure to become a favorite for both residents and visitors.

The growing interest in the Cargo District reflects a broader trend. In recent years, urban areas across the U.S. have seen an increase in mixed-use developments that blend dining, entertainment, and community spaces. According to a 2023 survey by the National Restaurant Association, nearly 70% of consumers say they prefer dining venues that offer a variety of food options and a lively atmosphere.
