Discover the Exciting New Indian Food Restaurants Opening in Luzerne County!

Jigar Patel has dreamed of opening a restaurant since he moved to the United States from India over 20 years ago. Recently, he and his partners launched Zupadi Indian Restaurant at 752 Wyoming Ave. in Kingston. This new spot is the latest addition to Luzerne County’s growing list of Indian eateries.

Patel, 33, emphasizes the freshness of their dishes. “We use no frozen food. Everything is made from scratch,” he said. “You can really taste the Indian spices. It’s not just spicy; it’s fresh.” Zupadi offers a variety of options, including seafood, lamb, goat, shrimp, and chicken.

This is Patel’s second restaurant in the area. He also runs ChaiWala at 726 Wilkes Barre Twp. Blvd. in Wilkes-Barre Twp., which focuses on take-out and authentic Indian tea.

Alongside his restaurant ventures, Patel has also opened Pizza Hut franchises in Hanover Twp. and Kingston. He owns the Pantry Quik on Carey Avenue in Wilkes-Barre. “It was always my dream when I came to the United States. I’ve wanted to do this since I was 10,” he shared.

Patel saw a need for more Indian food options in Luzerne County. Other friends have shared similar dreams, opening places like Kabab & Naan at 91 Shoemaker St. in Forty Fort. They are also launching a new location soon at 4810 Birney Ave. in Moosic.

Nearby Indian restaurants include Amber Indian Express at 78 S. Main St. in Wilkes-Barre and Food Trail at 220 East End Center in Wilkes-Barre Twp. Despite the competition, Patel believes there’s enough business for everyone. “So far it’s good. It’s been busy, and we haven’t had any complaints,” he said.
