Qualcomm just unveiled its Snapdragon X2 Elite and X2 Elite Extreme chips, claiming they are game-changers for Windows laptops. These chips promise speed and efficiency that could challenge industry giants like Intel and AMD. At CES 2026, we’re finally getting to see real devices powered by these processors, including the more budget-friendly Snapdragon X2 Plus.
According to Qualcomm, both high-end and budget laptops will launch around the end of Q1. However, exact pricing information isn’t available yet. Previous predictions had set a target of $700 for Snapdragon laptops, but ongoing RAM shortages mean prices are fluctuating.
Qualcomm’s Mandar Deshpande mentioned that while the Elite tier typically starts at $1,000, the Plus chips are designed to deliver impressive performance without breaking the bank. The 10-core X2 Plus is still competitive in CPU and battery efficiency, boasting a 35% increase in CPU performance and a 39% increase in GPU performance compared to its predecessors.
In terms of graphics capabilities, the X2 Plus retains some powerful features, like an advanced NPU capable of 80 TOPS, which is advertised as the fastest in its category. While it won’t handle gaming as well as the Elite variants, it still puts up a decent fight against competitors.
Importantly, the Plus chip claims to consume 43% less power than previous models, promoting “multi-day battery life.” Qualcomm is also focused on expanding driver support for gaming, promising updates every quarter while backing a wide range of games.
What’s more, recent trends show gamers and tech enthusiasts eagerly discussing these new processors on platforms like Twitter and Reddit, showcasing interest in the potential for improved gaming experiences on portable devices.
While Qualcomm isn’t committing to other operating systems just yet, there’s buzz about possible handheld gaming solutions at the upcoming Game Developers Conference in March 2026.
With all these advancements, it seems Qualcomm is aiming to solidify its place in the laptop market, leveraging trends in performance and gaming to attract both consumers and manufacturers alike.
