This event is a fantastic chance for top companies. It helps young people get involved in the innovation and tech sector, as shared by Saeed Sarkar from the vice-presidency for science and technology.

Sarkar noted that 22 innovative projects made it to the final round of this year’s award. These projects are divided into three key areas: advanced materials and manufacturing technologies (7 out of 53), optics, quantum, and microelectronic technologies (8 out of 31), and biotechnology and precision medicine (7 out of 51).

The main goals of NEXT are to boost research and development and to focus on advanced technologies.

NEXT also seeks to combine technologies to solve economic, social, and environmental issues. It aims to help tech companies grow, push industries to adopt new technologies, and promote teamwork and competition among innovators.

Iran’s Ranking Improves in GII 2024

This year’s Global Innovation Index (GII) shows that Iran has climbed in its rankings. In 2023, Iran was ranked 55 in knowledge and technology output and 117 in business sophistication. In 2024, it improved to 49 and 110, respectively.

The rankings for market sophistication and infrastructure also rose, going from positions 19 and 97 in 2023 to 17 and 95 in 2024.

The GII ranks countries based on their innovation abilities.

This year, Iran holds second place among countries in Central and Southern Asia, maintaining its position from the past two years. India is first, and Kazakhstan is third.

In the lower-middle-income group, Iran is fifth, showing progress from sixth place in 2023.

Over the past four years, Iran’s GII ranking confidence interval has been between 56 and 80.

In 2024, Iran’s innovation output ranked 48, while its input ranked 85.

According to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Iran is at the top for market capitalization and trademarks by origin.

Additionally, it ranks well in several other areas: 3rd in software spending, 5th in gross capital formation, 8th in graduates in science and engineering, and 17th in market sophistication.

Tehran is notable in several aspects, ranking the highest for market sophistication (17), knowledge and technology outputs (49), and creative outputs (52).

This year, Tehran is ranked 38th in the world as a science and technology cluster, slightly down from 35th last year, according to WIPO.
