Luminary is empowering female student-athletes at the University of Maryland to succeed after graduation and in sports. This year, they’ve collaborated closely with these athletes to help them explore their futures.
Luzio, a former student-athlete, reflected on her time at Maryland, saying, “Those four years were the best of my life. It’s incredible to see Luminary’s logo alongside Maryland’s and Under Armour’s. It truly is a special moment for all of us.”
Kelly Welsh from Under Armour hosted the student-athletes, giving them a behind-the-scenes look at the company. As a former student-athlete herself, Welsh shared, “I remember being in their shoes—eager to work in sports but unsure of where to start. Our goal today was to connect them with various roles and show them how their skills can lead to exciting careers.”
During their visit, the athletes met many key players from Under Armour’s marketing team. Brian Swatek, a senior lead at the company, expressed pride in hosting these young women, emphasizing the program’s aim to build confidence and expand professional networks.
This initiative is increasingly important. Recent studies highlight the lack of female representation in leadership roles within sports. According to a 2022 report by the Women’s Sports Foundation, only 16% of coaching positions in college sports are held by women. Programs like Luminary’s are crucial for bridging this gap and preparing future leaders.
Social media feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many participants sharing their excitement and gratitude online. These experiences not only build connections but also inspire other young women considering careers in sports.
The partnership between Luminary and Under Armour signifies a commitment to fostering talent among female athletes, making sure they have the tools and opportunities to succeed beyond college.
