Discover the Fascinating Intersection of Art and Science in ‘WILDLAND’ – Join Our Montecito Talk!

Ethan Turpin, an artist, and Naomi Tague, a scientist, are teaming up for a free lecture called Beyond Data Visualization: Art-Science Collaboration on Thursday, January 30, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM at Westmont’s Porter Theatre. Everyone is welcome, and there will be light snacks.

The WILDLAND: Ethan Turpin’s Collaborations on Fire and Water exhibit is on display at the Westmont Ridley-Tree Museum of Art until March 22. This exhibition showcases their unique partnership over the past decade, featuring works like Future Mountain and TreeWater.

In their talk, Turpin and Tague will discuss how art and science can work together to help us understand our changing planet and how humans fit into that picture. “Earth system science involves a lot of different elements, like technology and data,” Tague explains. “Artists are stepping out of traditional roles to help explore these big issues in creative ways.”

Turpin adds, “Art and science both aim to reveal new perspectives. Collaborating helps us grasp the complexities of the world around us.” This combination can lead to insights that enrich our understanding of environmental challenges.
