With a busy household and two kids, finding time for date nights is tough for Julie and me. Lately, we’ve turned to lunch dates instead, especially since I work from home in Wyomissing and she’s just a short drive away in Sinking Spring.
Recently, we revisited Ganly’s Irish Pub, a spot we love but hadn’t been to in years. On this lovely April afternoon, we chose the patio for our meal, soaking up the sun and enjoying the charm of the outdoor space.
Walking through the bar area reminded me of a golf course pub, with its cozy wooden decor and TVs lining the walls. The patio was inviting, filled with quaint metal tables and heat lamps to ward off the spring chill.
While Ganly’s doesn’t have a specific lunch menu, we decided to explore the sandwich options. I went for the Guinness beef dip, paired with sweet potato waffle fries—a personal favorite. The sandwich was fantastic. It featured tender, flavorful roast beef, sautéed onions, and provolone cheese, accompanied by a savory dipping broth. The provolone perfectly complemented the beef, enhancing each bite.
The sweet potato fries were excellent too, especially with the sweet caramel dipping sauce. We ended up sharing, and I even brought some home since I had more than enough.
Julie ordered a seafood quesadilla, filled with lobster, crab, and shrimp, drizzled with a chipotle sauce. Though I’m not a seafood fan, she enjoyed it immensely, praising the balance of flavors and kick from the sauce.
The only hiccup was a delay in getting our check from our new server. However, everything else was quick, and we wrapped up our meal in just over an hour.
Our total was about $40, which felt fair given the quality of food. It turned out to be one of the best lunches we’ve had lately, making it likely that we’ll return to Ganly’s for more lunch adventures soon.
Fun Fact
A recent survey by the National Restaurant Association shows that lunch outings have surged in popularity, with nearly 50% of respondents saying they prefer lunch dates over dinner. So, it seems like we’re not alone in our lunch date preference!
